whoa, finally some people are getting a clue about what needs to be done. You know what, I also get tired of all these pure white appliances that are out there. They really need to make more dark colored appliances with readable white lettering on the panels. Pretty soon, I hope every electronic thing will talk. I'd love to know what track i'm fast-forwarding to on a cd or when my coffee's done brewing.
At the rate technology is progressing I won't be surprised if we see more things with eloquence in them, like a dvd player, or a a stand-alone cd burner with a speech synthesizer!
Well here in the UK we now have a talking digital TV reciever, baisicly it's a box that lets you recieve digital terestrial TV channels, also lets you watch programs that have audio description, I'm not gonna bore you with technicalitties why you can't watch AD programs with normal TV sets or even with most of these digital recievers, anyway, this talking ones, it's pritty cool and I got it, it doesn't use synths though, it uses pre recorded samples, quite a few of the menus in it talk, it also tells you every time you change the channel the name of the channel which i think is really cool. The only problem I found with it is, recentrly there were some new channels added, but because it uses prerecorded samples, as the channel is new, it doesn't know what the channel is or rather doesn't have a name tag for it it'd just say "unknown channel" but the box is configured to get software updates through a phoneline or you can even connect it to your DSL modem and get the updates that way so that problem was solved. It also has talking EPG which doesn't work very well yet but they say that they'll improve it, so yeah, it's nice little thing and sure changed and improved the way I watch TV.
